Naples-based Hoffmann Family of Companies completed a nearly $1.8 billion acquisition of the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins from Fenway Sports Group, with the Florida Everblades set to become an official minor league affiliate of the Penguins when the 2026-27 season begins. Founded by family patriarch David Hoffmann, the company has grown into a global enterprise spanning more than 200 brands across 400 locations in 30 countries, with the Hoffmanns having first entered professional sports ownership when they purchased the Everblades and Hertz Arena in Estero in 2019. Fort Myers Midtown Sports Complex Plans Take Shape
Fort Myers City Council and Indiana-based developer Card & Associates are advancing plans for a major sports complex and community center in Midtown, on and around the City of Palms stadium site along Broadway Street, with a study finding the project could generate $62.7 million in annual economic output. The proposed development includes a 140,000 to 200,000-square-foot indoor field house with hard courts and turf, plus a linear park, townhomes, apartments above retail, a hotel, restaurant, brewery, and parking, with detailed schematic plans expected this fall. Florida Python Challenge Returns July 10th-19th
About 1,000 participants will compete in the 2026 Florida Python Challenge in the Everglades from July 10-19, with a $10,000 prize for the most Burmese pythons captured. Participants must register and complete a free online training course, with registration open through the last day of the hunt.(WGCU)

Naples Botanical Garden is offering free admission now through September 30th for kids 17 and under during summer hours(8am-2pm).

Avelo Airlines is adding nonstop flights from Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) to Charlotte/Concord, North Carolina beginning November 19, 2026, operating on Thursdays and Sundays with introductory one-way fares starting at $49.

Breeze Airways announced three new nonstop routes from Southwest Florida International Airport to Dayton, Ohio; Madison, Wisconsin; and Trenton, New Jersey, with fares starting as low as $69 one way.

Fort Myers Downtown parking now free for the first 2 Hours. The City of Fort Myers launched a pilot program offering 2 hours of free parking at its three downtown garages (City of Palms Garage, Main Street Garage, and Luminary Hotel Garage) with 1,285 total spaces available. The program runs through October 31, 2026, with the 3rd hour at $3, each additional hour at $1, and a $10 daily maximum.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
