Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, so the lineup is heavy on kid and family fun, but there are plenty of grown-up parties and costume contests sprinkled in too. Bonita's New Banyan Square Splash Pad Debuts With Fountain Shows

Legacy Harbour Marina Reopens After $15M Rebuild
Downtown Fort Myers' Legacy Harbour Marina on the Caloosahatchee reopened Oct.
23 after a $15 million rebuild, three years after Hurricane Ian. It has 131
slips for boats from 40 to 140 feet, plus new docks and utility upgrades, a

It all started with a dog named Lady.

In the early ’70s, Anne Joffe was on a family vacation to Sanibel, sitting on a five-foot pile of shells, when a little brown dog jumped into her lap. A man nearby called out “Lady,” and Anne thought he was talking to her. He was talking to the dog. One conversation later, Anne had bought his house, his boat, and the dog, since he was moving to New Zealand. She hopped a Greyhound from Louisville to Fort Myers to pick up Lady, and arrived to a fully furnished home with a stocked fridge.

The shop came next. Anne’s first She Sells Sea Shells was in Louisville, where she trucked in sand and built a tiki hut so customers could kick off their shoes and browse shells on a mini beach. The Sanibel store opened in November 1976, started by selling puka necklaces, and has been on Periwinkle Way since 1984. Fifty years and more than a million shell creations later, she’s still there, and still happiest taking people shelling.
