Lee County Approves $13.4 Million for Beaches, Parks, and Pier
Lee County commissioners approved more than $13 million in contracts on June 16 to restore coastal parks and beach amenities damaged by Hurricane Ian, including Bonita Beach Park, Little Hickory Island Beach Park, Bowditch Point Park, and eight damaged boardwalks at locations including Bunche Beach and multiple Bonita Beach accesses. The board also approved $1.4 million for construction engineering and inspection services for the Fort Myers Beach Pier, planned to extend 1,000 feet into the Gulf — more than 70% longer and 50% wider than the original.(Gulfshore Business)
Water Advisory: Sanibel Causeway
The Florida Department of Health in Lee County has issued a water quality advisory for the Sanibel Causeway (19931 Sanibel Causeway, Fort Myers) after tests completed June 17 showed Enterococcus bacteria levels exceeding state health guidelines. The advisory warns against all water-related activities at that location and will remain in place until bacteria levels drop below the accepted health threshold. (WINK News)
Lakes Park Splash Pads Expected to Reopen in July
The $2.6 million replacement project to restore the splash pads at Lakes Regional Park, destroyed by Hurricane Ian, is expected to wrap up in July 2026. Before reopening, Lee County still needs to complete final inspections, test the splash pad systems, obtain Florida Department of Health approval, and finish a final punch list. County officials say they are in the home stretch. The project is funded through the Florida Division of Emergency Management, meaning no local taxpayer dollars are being used.(WINK News)

Bonita Springs 4th of July Parade
9am–11am | Old 41, starting at Rosemary Ave | Free
A community tradition since 1958, organized by the Bonita Springs Firefighters Union. The parade runs south on Old 41 from Rosemary Ave to the fire station. Best viewing is near Riverside Park. Old 41 closes at 8:30am, so plan ahead. Water friendly, no water ballons.
Star Spangled Bonita
6pm–9pm | Riverside Park | Free
An evening celebration featuring live music from the Ben Allen Band, followed by a drone show, laser lights, and fireworks to close out the night.
Cape Coral
Freedom 5K & Kids Fun Run
Registration 6am | Race starts 7am | Cape Coral Bridge, 2051 Cape Coral Pkwy E | Paid
The Chamber of Commerce of Cape Coral's annual race runs across the Cape Coral Bridge. Registration is $20–$40, or $15 for the Kids Fun Run (ages 12 and under). Naples 4th of July Parade
9am–10:30am | 5th Ave South | Free
The Naples parade runs east along 5th Ave South from 3rd Street to 8th Street South, featuring floats, fire engines, bands, dance troupes, scouts, and civic groups tossing candy and beads to the crowd. Spectators should line up along 5th Ave S or 8th St — not 3rd St South, which is reserved for staging. Free parking in the two nearby garages. Arrive early — spots fill up fast.
Gulf Coast Runners Freedom Swim
Meets 10:30am | Lowdermilk Park Beach | Free
An informal group swim following the Firecracker 5K. Meet at Lowdermilk Park, walk one mile south on the beach, sing the National Anthem, then swim back. No registration, no fee — swim at your own risk.
Naples 4th of July Fireworks
9pm–9:30pm | 5th Ave South Beach Access | Free
A 25-minute fireworks show launched from a barge near 5th Ave South, choreographed to patriotic music simulcast on WAVV 101.1 FM. New location this year due to Naples Pier construction. Bring chairs and a radio, and carpool if possible — parking enforcement will be strict.
Sanibel Island
Sanibel Island 4th of July Parade

The annual parade travels east on Periwinkle Way from Tarpon Bay Rd, ending at Casa Ybel Rd. Periwinkle closes 9am–noon. Arrive early for a good spot — bring chairs, water, and sunscreen. Parking available at multiple locations along the route.
Sanibel Island 4th of July Fireworks

Fireworks are launched from the north end of Bailey Road and are visible from the Sanibel Causeway, bayside beaches, and by boat in the bay. Find a spot along the water for a great front-row view.
