Fort Myers Plans 46-Acre Nature Park on Treeline Avenue
Fort Myers City Council voted on July 20 to annex 15.36 acres at 13200 Treeline Avenue, combining it with 30.83 acres recently annexed to create a 46-acre park and preserve at the city's southern boundary just north of Daniels Parkway. The city-owned property, which was originally planned for commercial use, features a large lake, wetlands, and natural areas that city leaders opted to protect as green space rather than develop. Estero Eyes New Age-in-Place Senior Community
Indiana-based Leo Brown Group has proposed Mission Grove of Estero, a 163-unit senior living community on 7 acres near Three Oaks Parkway and Corkscrew Road, featuring independent living, assisted living, and memory care all on one campus so residents can transition between care levels without having to relocate. The Mission Revival-style development, which remains in the planning stages pending design revisions recommended by Estero's Planning, Zoning and Design Board, would include a pool, courtyard, dining area, and shuttle service.(Gulfshore Business)

Fort Myers Approves $109 Million Police Headquarters
Fort Myers City Council unanimously approved a $109 million construction contract for a new police headquarters at 2150 Fowler Street, ending more than a decade of discussions and delays with construction set to begin this fall. The new 172,000-square-foot facility will consolidate all FMPD divisions currently scattered across the city under one roof, featuring a modern 911 communications center, evidence processing, training space, and an indoor firing range.(WINK News)

FGCU Names New Athletic Director
Brian Barrio was formally introduced as FGCU's fourth athletic director on July 20, bringing more than two decades of experience in intercollegiate athletics including previous AD roles at UMBC and Central Connecticut State. Barrio says FGCU already has a strong foundation to win, but his first challenge will be securing resources to keep the Eagles competitive in a rapidly changing college sports landscape that now includes NIL deals, the transfer portal, and direct revenue sharing.
