Lee County Schools Contract Revision
Lee County Schools and the Teachers Union have reached a tentative contract agreement that includes salary increases, expanded parental leave, modifications to bereavement leave and terminal pay, and 45 additional work minutes per week with a 30-minute lunch. Lee County Seeks Oil Spill Funds to Rebuild Fort Myers Beach Pier
Lee County wants to tap into roughly $7 million from BP/Deepwater Horizon oil spill recovery funds (via the RESTORE Act) to help cover gaps in rebuilding the Fort Myers Beach Pier. Though FEMA has already approved some funding to restore the pier, that assistance is limited to reconstructing it as it was before and Lee County plans a longer, wider, and more resilient version, leaving an estimated ~$6 million shortfall to fill.
