Jaycee Park Reopens in Cape Coral After Major Renovation
Jaycee Park, located in southeast Cape Coral near the College Parkway bridge, officially reopened on April 30 after 555 days and an $18.7 million renovation. The rebuilt waterfront park features a 5,000-square-foot splash pad, lighted riverfront boardwalk, large inclusive playground, bandshell, beach volleyball courts, and shaded picnic areas, with a dedicated food truck court coming soon. First Sea Turtle Nest of 2026 Found in Collier County
The Collier County Sea Turtle Protection Team recorded the first sea turtle nest of 2026 on Barefoot Beach, a loggerhead nest that has been staked and will be monitored until the eggs hatch. The team patrols and records sea turtle emergencies along 22.5 miles of Collier County beachfront daily during nesting season, which runs from spring through the end of October.(WINK News)

Sanibel Builds Bat Houses After Hurricanes Destroyed Habitats
The Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation is building bat houses across Sanibel to replace critical tree canopy habitats destroyed by recent hurricanes. The structures provide stable roosting spots for mother bats during maternity season, which is crucial as pregnant females can eat their whole body weight in mosquitoes every night, helping control mosquito populations as summer approaches. The foundation has installed more than a dozen bat houses and is offering free plans to encourage residents to build and install their own. (WINK News)
