RSW Breaks 43-Year Passenger Record
Southwest Florida International Airport set a historic monthly record in March 2026 with 1,521,149 passengers, marking a 3.9% increase from March 2025 and the busiest single month in the airport's 43-year history. Delta led all carriers with 289,910 passengers, followed by Southwest with 282,966, United with 225,833, American with 214,941, and JetBlue with 121,213 passengers.(WINK News)

Legacy Island Park Construction Advances
Fort Myers City Council awarded Williamson Bros. Inc. a $396,137.50 contract on April 20 to construct Phase 2 of Legacy Island Park in the Caloosahatchee River just upstream of the Business U.S. 41 bridge. The work includes a five-slip docking facility, overwater observation pier, two gazebos, and signage, with completion expected within 210 days.(Gulfshore Business)

Florida Panther Becomes Conservation Ambassador
A 2-year-old Florida panther named Loper, struck by a vehicle in Fort Myers in July 2025, underwent emergency surgery at BluePearl Fort Myers to repair a fractured right radius and ulna with plates and screws before being transferred to ZooTampa for rehabilitation WFLA. After suffering an additional fracture during recovery that made him non-releasable, Loper now serves as a permanent conservation ambassador at ZooTampa, educating guests about threats facing Florida panthers, including vehicle collisions which remain the leading cause of panther deaths.(WINK News)

FGCU Breaks Ground on Health Sciences Building
Florida Gulf Coast University broke ground this week on a $117 million health sciences building called Marieb Hall South, which will house simulated intensive care units, labor and delivery suites, operating rooms, and a dedicated apartment for teaching activities of daily living.. The facility will feature lifelike mannequins for students to practice procedures and specialized labs for nursing and occupational therapy programs.(WGCU)

  • Lee County Solid Waste will begin its seasonal collection schedule, with trash, recycling and yard waste set-out time moving to 5 a.m. starting Friday, May 1. This is one and a half hours earlier than the typical set-out time of 6:30 a.m. This annual adjustment helps our haulers complete routes before peak summer heat, keeping collection crews cooler and safer.

  • Lee County Utilities will temporarily switch its water disinfectant from chloramines to free chlorine as part of an annual routine maintenance process from May 1st through May 21st, 2026. This short-term change is common among utilities and helps ensure continued delivery of clean, safe drinking water. Visit leegov.com/utilities for more information.

Florida WildQuest Scavenger Hunt

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) invites families, friends and solo adventurers to play Florida WildQuest, a statewide scavenger hunt on Florida’s Wildlife Management Areas (April 25 – May 3, 2026). Using the free GooseChase mobile app, participants complete fun missions while exploring some of Florida’s best places to see wildlife and enjoy the outdoors.

To join, download the GooseChase app now and enter game code EBN6F2. Then get out to Florida’s WMAs between April 25 and May 3 to join in the fun! Players are eligible for a prize drawing by completing 10 missions and the short survey. WildQuest is free, though some WMAs may require a daily use permit fee; plan ahead and check site details.

  • Go Outdoors Yeti Cooler: YETI cooler tote and two Toadfish engraved tumblers
